Inspiring Story of a #MoreThanAPayCheque Believer – Diya Asrani
Doing what you love is freedom. Loving what you do is happiness. – Lana Del Rey
Blast from the Past
I was born in Chennai and brought up in Bangalore. While doing a Diploma in Textile Design, I faced a lot of limitations in doing something creative which led me to dislike textiles and I decided not to take it up as a profession. I wanted to do styling and also had an interest in training. However, I did not have technical knowledge of styling and feat of public speaking which is a must for a trainer resulted in me having low self-confidence to venture into styling and training professions.
Then it all Changed
I came across a course in Image Consulting and took it up as I felt it will help me meet my aspirations. This course gave me a fabulous learning experience in every sense. It not only gave me a certificate but also helped me build my brand, my expertise and my confidence as an individual. There was a time I couldn’t face a crowd and talk and today I love to talk and inspire people in every way I can.
The course also got me to understand every aspect of Image Management and how important it is to manage yourself in every situation. It also allowed me to think more than just Styling. Along with the topics in Image I also got trained in all the Soft Skills topics and that introduced me to the world of training.
Conquering New Horizons
From starting out as a student of ICBI, taking up workshops and trainings at various companies, heading a brand called Style Marché India to be training at ICBI – it has been an ecstatic feeling to experience every level of learning and constantly striving to enhance my knowledge in the field.
Providing one on one consulting to clients on managing their appearance, training store employees of fashion retail, being a stylist and consultant at Myntra, training students at Indian School of Business-Hyderabad, working with famous fashion designers, being a lead stylist at Arvind Limited, being Bangalore chapter president of Image Management Professionals’ Association, the variety in my professional work is extremely enjoying and challenging at the same time.
As a faculty at ICBI, I meet students from different backgrounds and it is exciting to see how budding image consultants and trainers plan to take things to the next level. It’s always a great experience training them!
Two years back even my mother took up the course in Image Consulting and now both of us together are taking forward our brand “Style Marché India” which caters to Image, Styling, Soft Skills, Fitness and Art requirements
My #MoreThanAPayCheque moment
My “MoreThanAPaycheque” moment was when a client came up to me and said “Thank you! Your sessions have made a positive impact on me. My kids tell me “Wow! Mamma! Love how you dress! Thank you so much for helping me and I will definitely tell people about you.” This gave me a sense of satisfaction and achievement. And this is one of the reasons why I love my job!
