How I Transformed My Life From Being Homemaker for 20 Years to Successful Entrepreneur in My 40s
For two decades, I was known as the homemaker who did it all. But behind the smiles and support, I felt a deep emptiness. This is the story of how I went from losing myself to discovering the power of confidence and creating a life of impact. If you’ve ever doubted whether it’s too late to start again, this story is for you.
The Weight of Being "Just" a Homemaker
I got married at 20, fresh out of college with a degree in Healthcare and Hospital Management. My world quickly became all about supporting my husband and raising our children. We lived in Australia for eight years before moving back to Pune, India in 2002. It was a whirlwind of experiences, but as time went on, I started to feel invisible.
As my kids grew older and more independent, I found myself battling feelings of worthlessness. On the outside, I looked confident. Inside, I struggled with body image issues, lost my sense of self-worth, and became increasingly withdrawn. I had no career, no professional achievements, and in a world that praised accomplishments, I felt small.
The Game-Changer: Discovering Image Consulting
One night, I stumbled across a video of Mrs. Suman Agarwal from the Image Consulting Business Institute (ICBI). She was speaking about how image consulting changes lives, not just by making people look good, but by helping them feel confident. This message hit me like lightning.
I had spent years admiring women who seemed effortlessly put together. Could I become one of them? I watched that video multiple times and finally decided to take the plunge. I enrolled in the image consulting course at ICBI, hoping that it could give me the confidence and sense of purpose I had been missing for so long.
Starting Over in My 40s: The Struggles and Breakthroughs
Starting a career in your 40s? It’s not easy. I was overwhelmed by technology, balancing home responsibilities, and studying again after decades. Every day felt like I was starting from scratch. But something magical happened at ICBI. I wasn’t just learning how to look good; I was learning who I was.
The environment at ICBI, especially the mentorship from Mrs. Suman Agarwal and Mr. Rakesh Agarwal, gave me the push I needed to keep going. They believed in me before I believed in myself. Slowly but surely, I started to regain my confidence.
The skills I learned at ICBI went beyond image consulting. I was learning how to build a business, how to market myself, and how to leverage social media to create a brand. The woman who once hid behind the scenes was now stepping into the spotlight.
The Birth of "The New You"
In 2021, I launched my own business—TNY (The New You). That name wasn’t just about my clients; it was about me. Through my consulting work, I’ve helped people discover their own confidence and embrace who they are. But the transformation wasn’t just about appearance—it was about stepping into a leadership role.
I became the Secretary of the Pune Chapter for the Image Management Professional Association (IMPA) and the Area Director at Toastmasters International. These positions allowed me to grow my network, mentor others, and spread the knowledge I had gained.
One of the highlights of my career was styling Siemens Digital Industries Software’s sales managers for a high-profile event in Hawaii. Seeing them represent India with pride and confidence was a defining moment for me. I realized that my work was not just about style—it was about transforming lives.
Finding Purpose: Helping Others Find Themselves
What began as a search for my own confidence turned into a mission to help others find theirs. Today, I mentor aspiring image consultants, continue growing my business, and give back to the community through workshops and public speaking. I’m proud to say that many of my work assignments now come through the network I’ve built, and I use platforms like LinkedIn to reach even more people.
My biggest takeaway? It’s never too late to start again. If I can do it, anyone can. I’m no longer “just” a homemaker. I’m a woman who fought through self-doubt, found my purpose, and created a life of meaning.
Is It Too Late to Start Again?
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering whether it’s too late to begin again, trust me, it’s not. My journey from homemaker to entrepreneur is proof that the only limits we face are the ones we place on ourselves. The courage to start over isn’t just about making big moves—it’s about rediscovering who you are.
What do you think? Is it ever too late to start over?
