Power suits

When one refers to Power Dressing or Power Suits, the first thing that comes to mind is the infamous 80’s style suits with big shoulder pads and of course the movie, Working girl.  Power suits have come a long way from looking like oversized boxes made of cloth. Today, power suits are more tailored and well fitted than their avatars from the 80’s; power suits are more about being tailored, which create the right first impression.

A power suit is a suit of two or more matching pieces of clothing which are intended to be worn together. It is usually a matching jacket and trouser/skirt set which can have an addition of a matching waistcoat. They are usually solids, but the braver men and women out there, you can opt for chalk stripes, pin stripes, or windowpane checks. For a power packed look of authority, go with colors like black, navy, and charcoal. Without a doubt, the best fabric to go for is wool. Even in wool, light wool is the best option as it doesn’t give the look and feel of being weighed down by the fabric. Wool keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, which allows you to wear your suit through all seasons of the year. Above all, ensure that your suit is well tailored and fits well. Match the above suit with a crisp white or light color shirt and you’re ready to win the day.

Whatever your role, as the old saying goes, “Dress for the job you want, not the one you have.” A power suit will definitely get you there.
