Aishwarya Rai at the Cannes

A lot is being said about Aishwarya Rai’s infamous ‘Purple lipstick’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The bold move brought a lot of mixed reviews her way, mostly negative.

In Image Management most we take about ‘Becoming a part of the color scheme with your clothes’. Aishwarya Rai seems to have taken this application to place much bolder than most people would usually go, by bringing the purple from her clothes not near her face, but on her face.

Out of 4 As of Image Management, she quite blatantly did not go for 3 of them – Authentic, Appropriate, and Attractive. Why so?

She should definitely be given credit for going ahead with this choice, as she is someone not known to experiment too much with her looks or outfits. She is someone who is less dramatic and usually goes for a more classic style of dressing. This color was definitely not a color that suits Aishwarya’s style that she has developed over the years.

The choice of lip color was out of place for the event where grace and elegance are the keywords for the choice of style. A red carpet event where the crème de la crème of the world gathers to witness the beauty of world cinema would be one of the last places to experiment with such a bold choice.

And lastly, the lip color was anything but attractive on her. One can definitely say it was the wrong choice of lip color to go for to create a focal point. Something a bit more subtle or tried and tested would have been the way to go for someone like Aishwarya Rai for such an event.

Leonardo da Vinci’s quite, “Simplicity is the ultimate form of Sophistication”, would be apt here.
